Penguin |
 Emperors are the largest of all penguin species, with an average weight of around 60 pounds. On their long journeys out to sea, they are able to make their own fresh water to drink by using a special gland in the nasal cavity. They are the only birds that never set foot on dry land. Instead, these flightless seabirds spend their entire lives on the ice shelves of Antarctica, or in the seas surrounding its vast frozen continent. With over 24 well -oiled feathers per square inch, penguins are able to survive the frigid ocean water, air temperatures of -70F, and winds of over 100 miles per hour. |
